Section I. An introduction to the History of Religions, its methods and perspectives:

• Problems on the concept of “religion”.
• Methodological approaches and diverse interpretations.
• Ritual, symbol and myth.

Section II. Religions in the Ancient Near East and the Mediterranean:

• Egypt and Mesopotamia. Cosmogonies and the origin of kingship.
• The Iranian mazdeism.
• Ancient Greece: From civic religion to Hellenistic cosmopolitism.
• Roman religion and religions of the Empire. E) “Peripheric” peoples: Celts and Germans.

Section III. Byblical religions:

• Ancient, Rabbinic and modern Judaism.
• Christianity: origins and developments.
• Islam: theology and law. Historical evolution.

Section IV. Religions in Eastern Asia and America. Colonialism and religious acculturation:

• Hinduism and Jainism.
• Buddism and its expansion.
• Religions in China and Shintoism in Japan.
• America: Aztecs, mayas and incas.

Section V. Religious pluralism today:

• Religions in Africa and the Pacific.
• Religion and secular societies. Religion, conflict and identity.
